| Paperback Description Veteran crime writer Ann Rule is uniquely qualified to chronicle the grisly career of Gary Ridgeway, the man convicted of being the "Green River Killer," the most prolific serial killer in American history. Not only is she one of the more successful true-crime authors, but for nearly 20 years, Rule was exceptionally close to the case, reporting on it for a Seattle newspaper, preparing a long-delayed book on the subject, and living within a few blocks of the strip of highway where most of Ridgeway's victims were abducted. | A Few Customer Reviews
Good Writer, Mediocre Book Having written such true crime standards as "The Stranger Beside Me" and "Small Sacrifices," Ann Rule long ago established herself as one of the brightest stars of her genre. Her best work shines in its detail, moves along quickly, and reads almost like fiction rather than cold fact.
Not one of her better books I did not think this book was well written. I skipped about 100 pages or more in the middle just to get to the end... even then I was skipping paragraphs.
Ann Rules! A Story about an All-American Monster, A Dose of Reality.... Ann Rule in my opinion, has to be the best true crimer writer alive today. I just spent 3 days in the state of Washington, without ever leaving Los Angeles! Let me explain: 3 days ago, I purchased Green River, Running Red, reluctantly. As much as I love Ann Rule's book, I have been terrified of Ted Bundy and Green River Gary, and as a result,I could not read books about them. I gave in and purchased Green River, and as she always does, Ann took me on a tour of Washington, as she wrote about one of the most horrific Serial Killer Monsters, know in the anals of American crime. The meek little runt of a man known as Gary L. Ridgeway, walked amongst us as an everyday "Joe", and murdered 48 women that we know of, because he didn't like them, and their profession. He did his business with them, and when he was done, HE DECIDED that they didn't deserve to live... "GRG" took unsuspecting naive young girls and women away from their families, forever robbing them of their presense, forever altering the fabric of their lives...I was 17 years old in 1982, growing up way too fast, thinking I was too smart for my own good, giving my Mother holy h*ll, and hanging out with the wrong crowd.I never went as far as these girls however; my physical development was that of an adult woman, and that brought unwanted attention from men that had one thing on their minds. At 17, I didn't have the maturity to fend off the lust, and fell for it hook, line and sinker. I could have have wound up like these poor victims, but fortunately, I grew up! I had that chance, they did not, and all because of a Monster named Gary Leon Ridgeway aka Green River Gary, decided that they didn't deserve a chance. Ann Rule brought the victims back to life for a brief moment, and humanized them. She told their stories, as only she can. When I finished the book, and wiped the tears away, I thanked God for the blessings he has bestowed upon me, and for allowing me to live. Please read this book, and when your done, pass it on to someone that needs a dose of reality. It just may save their lives. PS: Let's not forget, this is a true story no matter how we feel about the way Ann tells it. It happened, and it's horrible! |
