LET THEM EAT WORDS

I wanted to read this book and hoped for the best from it. Ahab's Wife, the author's earlier work, was a deliciously different take on that icon,

Such an interesting portrayal of a fascinating historical figure

Abundance is a first person account of Marie Antoinette's life and is so perfectly cast from inside her head that I almost believed her. The letters her mother wrote, the stories she was "fighting" against, and the horror of the revolution cast doubt on her veracity, but as a reader you still want to believer her. And even though I knew the ending of the story, I think I was as shocked as she was that she was executed.

Marie Antoinette.........who knew?

This is a very well written book about a grossly misunderstood woman. Sena Naslund has made Marie into a "human being" as opposed to the bi*tch we were all taught she was. The book is a real page turner and has prompted my interest in reading more about France's last Queen. A definite read for the historical fiction fan.
